A <\/span><span style=\"color: #3366ff;\"><a style=\"color: #3366ff;\" href=\"https:\/\/michaeljbrumm.com\/dclcorp-phase2\/blog\/3pl\/guide-third-party-logistics-3pl-fulfillment-providers\/\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">3PL provider<\/span><\/a><\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> allows companies to outsource logistics processes, such as warehousing, picking, packing, and shipping of orders.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><strong>Advance ship notification:<\/strong> <span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">An advance ship notice or advance shipping notice (ASN) is a notification of pending deliveries, similar to a packing list.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><strong>Air cargo:<\/strong><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> Freight that is moved by air transportation.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><strong>B2B:<\/strong><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> Business-to-business, in which one business purchases products from another business.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><strong>B2C:<\/strong><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> Business-to-consumer, in which an end customer purchases products from a business.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><strong>B2R:<\/strong><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> Business-to-retailer, in which a retailer purchases product from a business.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><strong>Backorder:<\/strong><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> A product that is out of stock at the time an order is placed, but will ship once available<\/span><\/p>\n<p><strong>Barcoding:<\/strong><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> Coding information so it can be read by a barcode scanner.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><strong>Batch fulfillment:<\/strong><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> Fulfilling a large number of orders all at the same time. <\/span><\/p>\n<p><strong>Carrier:<\/strong><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> The business used for delivery, such as USPS, UPS, and FedEx.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><strong>Cycle count:<\/strong> <span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">An inventory auditing procedure, which falls under inventory management, where a small subset of inventory, in a specific location, is counted on a specified day.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><strong><span style=\"color: #3366ff;\"><a style=\"color: #3366ff;\" href=\"https:\/\/michaeljbrumm.com\/dclcorp-phase2\/blog\/shipping\/dimensional-weight\/\">Dimensional weight<\/a><\/span>:<\/strong><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> An estimated weight calculated from the length, width, and height of a package, using the longest point on each side. <\/span><\/p>\n<p><strong><a href=\"https:\/\/michaeljbrumm.com\/dclcorp-phase2\/blog\/Inventory\/distributed-inventory\/\"><span style=\"color: #3366ff;\">Distributed inventory<\/span><\/a>:<\/strong><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> The splitting of a seller\u2019s inventory across multiple fulfillment centers. This can help lower shipping time and lower shipping costs.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><strong>Dropshipping:<\/strong><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> An order fulfillment process in which inventory is produced and stored by the manufacturer, then shipped directly to the end consumer.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"color: #3366ff;\"><strong><a style=\"color: #3366ff;\" href=\"https:\/\/michaeljbrumm.com\/dclcorp-phase2\/blog\/technology\/guide-to-edi-electronic-data-interchange\/\">EDI<\/a>:<\/strong><\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> Electronic Data Interchange. The way in which multiple systems communicate with each other to transfer information. <\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"color: #3366ff;\"><strong><a style=\"color: #3366ff;\" href=\"https:\/\/michaeljbrumm.com\/dclcorp-phase2\/blog\/understanding-fulfillment-costs-on-amazon-an-explanation-of-fba-fees\/\">FBA<\/a>:<\/strong><\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> Fulfillment by Amazon. Items are sold by a third-party, but stored and shipped from an Amazon fulfillment center to the customer.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><strong>Fill rate:<\/strong> <span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">The fill rate is the fraction of customer demand that is met through immediate stock availability, without backorders or lost sales.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><strong>Freight forwarder:<\/strong><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> A company that arranges the transportation of products on behalf of either a seller or buyer.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><strong>Freight shipment:<\/strong><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> Any shipment over 150lbs and\/or with dimensions larger than 30\u201d L X 30\u201d W X 30\u201d H. <\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"color: #3366ff;\"><strong><a style=\"color: #3366ff;\" href=\"https:\/\/michaeljbrumm.com\/dclcorp-phase2\/blog\/fulfillment\/fulfillment-center-difference-warehouse\/\">Fulfillment center<\/a>:<\/strong><\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> A fulfillment center is where customers\u2019 inventory is stored, managed, picked, packed, and shipped to their customers.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><strong>Inventory:<\/strong><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> The products on hand for any seller at any given time.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"color: #3366ff;\"><strong><a style=\"color: #3366ff;\" href=\"https:\/\/michaeljbrumm.com\/dclcorp-phase2\/blog\/inventory\/save-time-money-inventory-management-tips\/\">Inventory management<\/a>:<\/strong><\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> The tracking of inventory levels, orders, sales, and deliveries. A <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/michaeljbrumm.com\/dclcorp-phase2\/blog\/technology\/benefits-of-technology-focused-3pl-order-fulfillment\/\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">technology focused 3PL<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> can allow sellers to view real-time inventory counts, provide reporting to track inventory trends to better forecast sales. <\/span><\/p>\n<p><strong>Inventory turnover:<\/strong> <span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">A ratio showing how many times a company has sold and replaced inventory during a given period.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><strong>Key performance indicator:<\/strong> <span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Also known as KPI, this is a measurable value that demonstrates how effectively a company is achieving key business objectives<\/span><\/p>\n<p><strong>Kitting:<\/strong><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> A group of several different items, purchased, and shipped under one SKU. <\/span><\/p>\n<p><strong>Last-mile delivery:<\/strong><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> The transportation of a package from a fulfillment center to its final destination.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><strong>Net weight:<\/strong><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> The actual or estimated weight of a product without its packaging included.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"color: #3366ff;\"><strong><a style=\"color: #3366ff;\" href=\"https:\/\/michaeljbrumm.com\/dclcorp-phase2\/blog\/order-fulfillment-strategy\/\">Order fulfillment<\/a>:<\/strong><\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> The entire process of receiving, processing, packing, picking, and shipping an order.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><strong>Packing:<\/strong><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> Preparing picked products for shipment. <\/span><\/p>\n<p><strong>Pallet:<\/strong> <span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">A portable platform for handling, storing, or moving materials and packages.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><strong>Physical inventory count:<\/strong> <span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">An <\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">actual count of the materials and products a business owns.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><strong>Picking:<\/strong><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> The process of collecting products from their respective locations to fulfill an order.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><strong>Receiving:<\/strong><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> The acceptance of incoming inventory.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><strong>Reorder point:<\/strong> <span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Also called (ROP), it is the level of inventory which triggers an action to replenish that particular inventory stock.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><strong>Returns handling:<\/strong><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> The receiving, processing, and potentially restocking of orders\/products returned by the customer.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><strong>RMA:<\/strong> <span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Return merchandise authorization, return authorization (RA) or return goods authorization (RGA) is a part of the process of returning a product to receive a refund, replacement, or repair during the product&#8217;s warranty period.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><strong>Self-fulfillment:<\/strong><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> A fulfillment option in which the seller picks, packs, labels, and ships orders by themselves.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"color: #3366ff;\"><strong><a style=\"color: #3366ff;\" href=\"https:\/\/michaeljbrumm.com\/dclcorp-phase2\/blog\/advantages-for-companies-using-seller-fulfilled-prime\/\">SFP<\/a>:<\/strong><\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> Amazon Seller Fulfilled Prime. Items are sold by a third-party on Amazon and shipped by the third party through their own facility or through a 3PL. The seller retains the Amazon prime treatment (i.e. Prime badge) and the buyer gets all the benefits of buying a Prime product (i.e. free 2-day shipping).<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"color: #3366ff;\"><strong><a style=\"color: #3366ff;\" href=\"https:\/\/michaeljbrumm.com\/dclcorp-phase2\/blog\/shipping\/shipping-zone-guide\/\">Shipping zones<\/a>:<\/strong><\/span> <span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">The regions and countries that you ship to. Each shipping zone includes shipping rates that apply to customers whose addresses are within that zone.<\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Transit times and prices may increase as the zone number increases.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><strong>SKU:<\/strong><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> Stock-keeping unit.
